Grant Ellis is hitting back at Litia Garr’s shocking claims during The Bachelor’s live “After the Finale Rose” segment. Litia had a lot to say about Grant on the show, including that he dropped several “I love you”s right before their breakup and even spoke about getting engaged.

“Grant and I had talked a lot about that day, and everything that he had ever said about it was that it was going to be us,” she said. “We were getting engaged from, you know, the first one on one that we had in L.A. until the night before that day. I remember saying goodbye to him and saying, ‘Oh my gosh, we are getting engaged tomorrow.’ And he said, ‘I know, I can’t wait. I love you. I love you. I love you.’ Those were the last words that he said to me before I walked up there. So it was a shock.”

She also claimed that Grant privately said he wished he could “stop the show” early since he was so ready to choose her.

Grant’s response? “There’s a lot [she said] that I didn’t align with,” he told Us Weekly. “But I let her speak her truth and her piece. I’m not gonna sit up there and argue with her on stage about what she thought I said. But I think that having a little more clarity—when you are the Bachelor, you do see your final two contestants as somebody that could be your wife. That’s where some confusion came into play.”

He added, “There’s room for interpretation when things are said ‘off camera.’ At that point in time, I can’t really say much. I’m not gonna argue, I just have to accept whatever the conditions are and apologize and let her feel how she feels because she’s in a tough situation and she’s hurt. I understand.”
